Ruling could unravel reforms to Portland’s public safety disability fund

The ruling would grant former Portland firefighter-turned chef Tom Hurley three years of lost disability payments and $3,200 in continued monthly benefits — a decision that could open the door for other injured firefighters and police to challenge the city’s return to work program.

Portland Community College student files tort claim over police stop

Delease Carter, the Portland Community College student and basketball player who was stopped by police while walking home with two friends in the middle of a North Portland street on Jan. 28, on Monday sent a notice of intent to sue the city, citing false arrest, battery and violation of Carter’s constitutional rights.
