Drowning in deposits, some Northwest co-ops try to survive by asking members to take their money elsewhere
Dozens of UO students and others have protested the group in recent months.
Parents and students had been up in arms about proposed schedule changes, worrying that it would make start times for the high school or elementary school music programs too early for students. In the end, the board chose a schedule that took into account both concerns.
Portland Public Schools staff has 45 days to bring a detailed plan for the high school redesign to the board and community. It will likely include recommendations for neighborhood school closures and new magnet programs.
The outing fits with the school’s mission to expose students to all aspects of life — and to emphasize all the things they can do.
Monday’s meeting stretches into Tuesday, as city leaders also delay a decision with Legacy Meridian but approve plans for a charter school.
The board, by a 5-2 vote, approved the 12-page resolution after more than two hours of public testimony and discussion. Superintendent Carole Smith and staff will work through April on specifics.
